It began as a happy accident—two pale, golden roots standing out in a sea of orange Kurodas over thirty years ago. Their color was unusual, their texture unforgettable: crisp, succulent, with a deep, lingering sweetness rarely found in yellow carrots.

For decades, the seed passed quietly between the hands of breeders, companies, growers and friends who kept it alive for one simple reason: flavor worth saving.

Now, it’s back. Bright and bold, with green shoulders that catch the light (and maybe a few stares). We say lean in—there’s no bitterness, only the unmistakable taste of something that almost slipped away.

Field Notes

• Soil Requirements:  Fertile, well-drained soils with an optimal pH of 6.0-6.8

Spacing:

• In-row Spacing: 2”
• Between Row Spacing: 12”

Direct Seeding:

• Seed once soil can be worked in the spring until 10 weeks prior to hard frost.
• Sow at 1” spacing ¼” deep
• Thin to 2” spacing
• Days to emergence: 7-10

Harvest

• Full-size roots measure roughly 6”-8” in length and 1.5”- 2” wide at shoulders. The tops are relatively sparse. Tapered roots make harvest slightly easier, but best practice is to dig roots. 

Storage

• Store unwashed topped roots at 32-40 ºF for up to 6 months
