Vice President - Agricultural Operations and Supply Chain

Full time


Remote

You'll orchestrate Row 7's field-to-fork operations—building the supply chain that moves our seeds from breeding trials to organic farms, to CPG production facilities, and to grocery shelves. You'll lead contract growing, logistics, and quality systems while creating the infrastructure that scales both our fresh produce and packaged goods nationally. This role is perfect for someone who's mastered organic supply chains but craves a bigger challenge—where you're building the systems that connect plant breeders, farmers, and food makers to deliver flavor at every step from seed to table.

LOCATION

Hybrid or Remote: West Coast or Hudson Valley, NY, with approximately 50% travel (regionally and nationally) based on business needs

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supply Chain Strategy & Planning

  • Scale and design  a regional produce supply chain model prioritizing  flavor, sustainability, quality, cost, and service—creating a framework for  Row 7  to realize its long-term vision
  • Continue to build out an operational and team infrastructure for a multi-year, national roll-out of expanding produce portfolio and ready-to-eat vegetables
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align strategies with Row 7’s overall business objectives
  • Establish dynamic and obtainable key performance indicators integrated with Row 7’s priorities to elevate quality, customer service, and sustainability 
  • Collaborate with leadership to build a sustainable cost structure
  • Foster and maintain a culture consistent with Row 7’s mission and community values

Contract Growing

  • Guide seed, produce, and ready-to-eat sourcing team members in cultivating and maintaining  long-term relationships with regional organic grower partners
  • Direct  crop planning and grower contract negotiations to align initiatives with Row 7’s supply chain needs 
  • Develop metrics incentivizing seed quality and addressing crop loss 

Quality & Sustainability Systems 

  • Implement quality and food safety systems across the supply chain
  • Steward the development of product specifications for unique plant varietals
  • Design and administer organic and sustainability standards for Row 7’s agricultural model 

Logistics & Information Technology

  • Identify necessary resources and infrastructure for the regional model across the Row 7 supply chain
  • Apply regional logistics and distribution processes, ensuring timely product delivery while maintaining quality  
  • Shape inventory management strategies to mitigate service and inventory risk exposure, including identifying outlets for excess inventory
  • Identify and implement IT infrastructure supporting  achieving quality, service, and cost goals

Customer Service

  • Manage sales operations, ensuring excellence in direct collaboration with retail buyers and inventory managers
  • Establish order management and invoicing processes to support rapid acceleration with established retail partners
  • Co-create the Row 7 produce offerings, ensuring alignment with Row 7 produce standards and a profitable business model 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 12+ years of produce operations experience, with a strong preference for experience designing and scaling organic agriculture and systems
  • End-to-end supply chain packer-shipper expertise
  • Team development and leadership experience in a high-growth organization, including management of cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in supply chain best practices, including procurement, logistics, distribution, and inventory management
  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills, with experience in growing contracts
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
  • Customer operations and produce selling experience
  • Fluency with cost modeling and budget management
  • Experience in packaged food goods, produce, seed systems, and/or plant breeding preferred

Chief Financial Officer

You'll own everything from crop yield forecasting to retail margin analysis while building financial systems that support both our farming partners and grocery expansion. LOCATION 

  • This position follows a remote or distributed work model within the United States
  • Travel within the United States (15%). 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategy, Planning, and Analysis Leadership

  • Lead Financial Planning: Spearhead financial planning initiatives as a Row 7 Executive Leadership Team member, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Develop Robust Financial Models: Maintain comprehensive financial model that includes historical vs. actuals analysis, cash flow planning, and long-range plan to support strategic decision-making
  • Oversee Revenue Performance Analysis: Coordinate the analysis of revenue performance across all revenue streams, conducting margin analyses by business channel, customer, and SKU
  • Innovation P&Ls and Forecasts: Develop and manage P&Ls and forecasts for critical innovation projects, building unit economics for the innovation pipeline
  • Investor Engagement: Provide strategic support for investor financial modeling and reporting, ensuring clear and accurate communication of financial insights

Financial Tracking and Reporting

  • Optimize Business Performance: Lead the team in optimizing revenue, cost, and margin through strategic insights and action-oriented analysis.
  • Monitor and Report Variances: Track actual cost development against budgets, provide early warnings on deviations, and implement corrective actions, including detailed monthly variance analysis
  • Financial Results Representation: Present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, offering analysis and insights to management, ownership, and other stakeholders

Financial Operations

  • Ensure Accurate AP Recording: Manage accounts payable team to ensure precise recording of AP batches, approval and verification of invoice payments, and appropriate account charging
  • Oversight of Tax and Audit Functions: Collaborate with tax accountants and auditors for year-end information, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant financial and tax reporting laws
  • Strengthen Internal Controls: Uphold and be accountable for internal controls, ensure all business licenses, certificates, insurance polices, and audits are current, and compliant with legal requirements 
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Develop policies and procedures to enhance finance and accounting processes, particularly as we scale CPG operations
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, teach, and mentor Row 7 team members in accounting and finance processes, fostering a culture of financial literacy and operational excellence

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL

  • Be a team leader and collaborator who is motivated to work up and down the organization, develop and value relationships internally and externally, and focus on results that provide insights to support decision-making for all aspects of the company

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • 8+ years of financial planning and analysis or corporate finance experience within the CPG or organic agriculture space
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with team leads, external partners, and team members
  • Understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to organize work, plan, manage multiple projects, and effectively respond to changing priorities
  • Exhibit honesty, integrity, and attention to detail in all aspects of the position.
  • Proficient in Google and Microsoft systems and related accounting software programs related to the seed and produce industry
