Chief Financial Officer

Founded by chef Dan Barber of Blue Hill and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Row 7 is an organic food company built to reimagine food from seed to table. Working in collaboration with chefs, farmers, and plant breeders, our mission is to introduce new plant varieties that bring consumers unique culinary, nutritional, and ecological value. Since its inception five years ago, Row 7 has collaborated with stakeholders across the food chain in order to make delicious ingredients—and the stories behind them—more accessible to all. Row 7 sells organic seeds to home gardeners and growers through our online marketplace. In the last year, Row 7 launched a line of branded organic vegetables for sale in grocery stores in the Northeast in 2022 and has expanded nationwide.

Row 7 is seeking an experienced finance leader to join our executive team. This role will oversee the company's financial operations and provide strategic guidance and leadership to support our continued growth in scaling a seed-to-table food company. This role will lead and be responsible for strategic financial planning, building and optimizing financial processes and systems, detailed analytics, and investment and financing decisions. Strong collaboration, strategic thinking, agricultural systems understanding, and effective leadership and communication skills are essential for this role, along with the ability to swiftly adapt to changing market conditions and integrate forward-thinking solutions.Â
This cross-functional leadership position will work closely with all Row 7’s team members, playing a pivotal role in optimizing value and driving impactful results within our dynamic organization. Experience in food and agriculture-based models and proven agricultural financial forecasting and analysis expertise is required. Be prepared for a hands-on role. Key Responsibilities
Strategy, Planning, and Analysis Leadership
Lead Financial Planning:Â Spearhead financial planning initiatives as a Row 7 Executive Leadership Team member, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
Develop Robust Financial Models: Construct comprehensive financial models, including historical vs. actuals analysis, cash flow planning, and central financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
Oversee Revenue Performance Analysis: Coordinate the analysis of revenue performance across all revenue management pillars, conducting margin analyses by business channel, customer, and SKU
Conduct Long-Range Business Planning: Lead long-term business planning efforts, including financial modeling and scenario analysis, to facilitate company growth and scalability
Innovate P&Ls and Forecasts: Develop and manage P&Ls and forecasts for critical innovation projects, building unit economics for the innovation pipeline
Investor Engagement: Provide strategic support for investor financial modeling and reporting, ensuring clear and accurate communication of financial insights
Financial Tracking and Reporting
Optimize Business Performance: Lead the team in optimizing revenue, cost, and margin, driving superior business performance through strategic insights and action-oriented analysis.
Oversee Financial Performance: Manage financial performance by focusing on delivering annual operating plans and budgets through actionable analytical insights
Monitor and Report Variances: Track actual cost development against budgets, provide early warnings on deviations, and implement corrective actions, including detailed monthly variance analysis
Financial Operations
Ensure Accurate AP Recording: Collaborate with accounts payable to ensure precise recording of AP batches, approval and verification of invoice payments, and appropriate account charging
Financial Results Representation: Partner with the COO to present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, offering analysis and insights to management, ownership, and other stakeholders
Oversight of Tax and Audit Functions: Collaborate with tax accountants and auditors for year-end information, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant financial and tax reporting laws
Strengthen Internal Controls: Uphold and be accountable for internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and overseeing necessary audits
Continuous Process Improvement: Assist in developing policies and procedures to enhance finance and accounting processes continuously
Compliance Management: Ensure all business licenses, certificates, insurance policies, and audits are current and compliant with legal requirements
Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, teach, and mentor Row 7 team members in accounting and finance processes, fostering a culture of financial literacy and operational excellence
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL

- Have experience with Agricultural ERP system implementation, developing standards, audit, pricing, cost accounting, and tracking budget vs. actual results
- Demonstrate strong financial skills and expertise in analyzing financial information and developing reports and budgets
Experience and Education
- 8+ years of financial planning and analysis or corporate finance experience within the organic agriculture space
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA preferred
- Strong analytical skills and experience with financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with team leads, external partners, and team members
- Understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ability to organize work, plan, manage multiple projects, and effectively respond to changing priorities
- Exhibit honesty, integrity, and attention to detail in all aspects of the position.
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft systems and related accounting software programs related to the seed and produce industry

- CFO position is a full-time role
- The target pay range for this role is from $150,000 - $175,000 per year
